Hawai’i LIfeguard Appreciation Week

In recognition of drowning and water-related injury prevention efforts across our island state, Governor David Ige proclaims the week of August 21–27, 2022 as Hawaii Lifeguard Appreciation Week. In this inaugural celebration, lifeguards from across the state were recognized for their outstanding efforts at a lunchtime ceremony at Dukes Waikiki on Monday, August 22, as they participated in the opening ceremonies of Dukes OceanFest that evening at Queen’s Beach. The Hawaii Department of Health’s Drowning and Aquatic Injury Prevention Advisory committee is collaborating with the annual Dukes OceanFest, which celebrates Olympian Duke Kahanamoku, an early innovator of lifeguard technique and water safety.
